Many were left shocked after seeing prudent Arsene Wenger splash £42.5million on superstar Mesut Ozil last month. The Betway Sports markets may have shortened our odds of winning the league, but to maintain our early season form, we will undoubtedly need to strengthen the squad come January and with the way injuries are biting it really can’t come soon enough. Below is a list of some potential targets for the Arsenal that we have been linked with at some point over recent transfer windows.
It’s a common misconception that Arsenal are vulnerable at the back and lack vital leadership but they certainly need reinforcements. Frenchman Rami fits the mould perfectly. At 27 years of age he offers value for money and he’s currently transfer listed at Valencia, meaning Wenger wouldn’t be paying over the odds for his signature. However, a big name like Rami will attract interest from other top clubs, so Wenger would need to move fast. Or just mention that we have Ozil.
The midfield maestro has been informed by Juventus that his contract will not be extended. A player with his skill-set fits the Arsenal mantra perfectly, but at 34-years-old, age could prove to be a stumbling block. If Wenger could get him cheap then a deal looks likely according to recent reports in certain papers but Chelsea are also said to be sniffing around.
The Spaniard joined Juventus this summer following his contract expiring at Athletic Bilbao. Llorente has looked increasingly underwhelming in Turin, featuring only once in their last five games. Arsenal are desperately short up-front, with only Olivier Giroud and maverick Nicklas Bendtner as their recognised strikers. To stay in the hunt for a trophy a striker is needed. Llorente could be available at a reasonable price and could be willing to come to the Emirates but would Juventus let him go in the middle of the season?
The 20-year-old German is attracting worldwide attention. Wenger is a big fan and monitored him over the summer. Draxler is a complete player and his age will certainly be a positive for Wenger who likes his players to grow whilst at the club. He will not come cheaply, though, with Schalke holding out for a fee well above £20million. If signed it would be a fantastic transfer coup for Arsenal and turn them into serious title contenders.
Any names you think should be on this list?
