In a story that takes some very old information and spices it up a bit by adding a bit of ”stating the obvious” – The Daily Mail has linked Arsenal with a move for Chelsea’s Juan Mata.
Earlier this week reports emerged suggesting that either David Luiz or Juan Mata could be used by Chelsea as a makeweight in a deal to take Wayne Rooney to Stamford Bridge. These reports were rubbished both by Chelsea and Mourinho – with Mourinho himself saying that “they are very important for me”. But still – the Mail thinks that Mata’s position at the club will be under “scrutiny” under Mourinho (despite him being the club’s player of the year two seasons in a row) and says that Arsenal have asked to be kept aware of any updates (tying in with their previous interest of his Valencia days).
I’m not going to dwell on Arsenal missing out on Mata the first time round because it shouldnt have happened. But if Mata is available now then it goes without saying that Arsenal should be (and will be) interested. But that doesnt really matter anyway - because he isn’t available and he isn’t going to be either. The headline of the article states that Arsenal have moved for Mata – yet nowhere in the article does it give any details of this move – the only thing mentioned is that Arsenal are interested or at least would be if he became available. And surely that is something that is blindingly obvious – I didnt need a story in th Mail to tell me that.
