Yes, yes, I know that the word ‘imminent’ tends to put the clappers on any transfer speculation, but what can you do?
According to ESPN Brazil, Arsenal are closest to signing Atletico Mineiro’s Bernard whose move to Europe is ‘imminent’.
Yesterday it was reported that Arsenal had agreed a fee for the player of around £21m however that information, which came from either the Daily Mail or Caughtoffside and was based on a report which appeared in the Brazilian media last week, seemed to have no foundation in truth when presented as a new development.
An ESPN journalist independently said that Bernard would be joining Arsenal and from that the story morphed quickly with it being claimed that ESPN Brazil were reporting the deal as all but done and a fee agreed.
Speaking this week after his side lost their first leg Cop Libertadores game, Bernard himself said
“If it’s my last game [for Atletico Mineiro] or not, it will be one of the most important titles in my career.”
Now ESPN Brazil are reporting
The information is not up on their site yet.
With Gervinho seemingly on his way out of the club and Arshavin already gone, it would seem logical that Arsenal would look to strengthen their left-side and the 20 year old Brazilian would certainly do that.
At this point, however, nothing is concrete however it is widely accepted that his club would be willing to sell him if the right offer came in – a fee of around €25m would do the trick.
