Former Arsenal man Nigel Winterburn has given a ringing endorsement to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in his Daily Star on Sunday column.
The full back, who was at Arsenal for 13 years wrote
“So should the Frenchman still be in The Emirates hotseat despite recent failings?
“Gunners fans don’t need reminding that the club have not won a major honour since they lifted the FA Cup back in 2005.
“That is way too long for a club such as Arsenal to be without silverware and the lack of trophies has given Wenger’s detractors plenty of ammunition to fire at him.
“Pundits and supporters alike are divided as to whether he should still be the boss.
“It is fair to say that he will be under a huge amount of pressure to deliver a pot or two this time of asking – but I wholeheartedly believe he is the right manager for Arsenal.”
Nigel will be delighted to learn then that Arsenal have opened up talks with Arsene over a new deal.
