According to Sky Italia Napoli manager Rafa Benitez has given the all-clear for the club to try and sign Arsenal target Julio Cesar.
With the player saying that both he and his kids would prefer to stay in London I don’t really see anything in this story which could cause concern for Arsenal fans and it wasn’t that long ago that they were reporting Roma wanted to sign him, a story which has faded in to obscurity.
Arsenal almost signed him last summer during the transfer window before he opted to go to QPR so if Napoli start throwing money at him that might cause a problem but I don’t see that happening.
With Arsenal selling Vito Mannone to Sunderland and Fabianski entering the last year of his contract and his history of injury problems it is clear the club need to sign a keeper.
The links with Cesar have been strong but none of this means we are certain to sign him. How long have we been saying we needed a keeper? And that was from a time when we were considerably more desperate for one than we are now.
That being said, the financial situation at Arsenal is considerably healthier now which should make the difference.
