Report: Arsenal to hijack Tottenham Dinamo deal

The Mirror reported last night that Arsenal are one of a number clubs still in the hunt for the signatures of talented Croatian teenagers Tin Jedvaj and Alen Halilovic despite reports to the contrary suggesting that the pair had already agreed moves to Tottenham (or were close to) for a combined fee of around 20m Euros.

Dinamo executive chairman told the Croatian media:

“The deal with Tottenham is still under negotiation, nothing has yet been done.

“We hope that the transfers of Halilovic and Jedvaj can be completed in the best way possible but the transfer is not yet complete.”

Whilst the Mirror takes the angle of the moves not being completed so other clubs could still come in for the pair – the fact that Tottenham are named still suggests that they are very much in the frame and very much at the front of the queue for their signatures. Arsenal are mentioned in the article because of their previous reported interest in Jedvaj but there is nothing else in the article to suggest that the mention of Arsenal is anything other than speculative. And even if Arsenal are in talks with Dinamo – the players have such a growing reputation that it is unlikely that it is just Arsenal rivalling Spurs for their signatures. Roma for example have been widely credited with having made a previous offer for Jedvaj. Still, anything that gives Arsenal a chance to get one over on Spurs makes me happy. But if I’m honest – I cant see Arsenal shelling out £17m this summer for them. But with Jedvaj unlikely to be eligible for a work permit at the moment – could Arsenal be working on a deal that would see them stay in place for the next season and for the majority of the fee to be paid next year? It’s certainly an interesting thought. And whilst Spurs still might well end up signing both players – it certainly appears that the transfers are further off being completed than the media initially reported.

In any case – this will be resolved sooner rather than later.
