Wigan manager Roberto Martinez is a big fan of on-loan Arsenal youngster Ryo Miyaichi, despite an injury-hit time at the DW Stadium this season.
The Japanese midfielder is highly rated by Arsene Wenger, who has sent him on previous loan spells to Feyenoord and Bolton in a bid to ready him for first-team football at the Emirates Stadium.
However, this campaign has been a difficult one for Miyaichi, and it was confirmed a few days ago that he would be out for the rest of this season with ankle ligament trouble.
Martinez, though, is keen to give the 20-year-old another chance to prove himself next year. He told BBC Sport:
“Ryo has an incredible future so if we could work with him for a longer period we would be very happy.”
It would be good for Miyaichi to play at Wigan again, as it must be said they play a style of football that would prepare him well for Arsenal’s game. Then again, if the Latics are relegated this season Wenger might feel he wants his player to be playing in the Premier League rather than the Championship.
