The Mirror claim that Manchester City are ready to raid Arsenal again this summer. Walcott? Cazorla? Wilshere? Nope…Carl Jenkinson.
The 21-year-old has made great strides for the Gunners this season, improving on a shakey first campaign, but it does seem somewhat surprising that with the likes of Pablo Zabaleta, Maicon and Micah Richards to choose from at right-back that they’d make Jenkinson a top target.
The article claims City were also close to signing Jenkinson from Charlton when he moved to Arsenal, though I can’t say I recall those rumours making the press at the time. I suppose with their signings of Jack Rodwell and Scott Sinclair last summer they’ve shown a fondness for bringing in young English players, although actually playing them at all seems another matter.
It would be a bit of a blow for Arsenal to lose Jenkinson, with first choice right-back Bacary Sagna also likely to be leaving as he continues to stall on a new contract. Feyenoord right-back Daryl Janmaat has already been linked with the Gunners as a replacement.
Hopefully this isn’t true, and it does seem a bit far-fetched. Anyway it would take quite a bit of money for us to bid with a promising English player, who also happens to be a die-hard gooner!
