Following the trend set by team-mate Jan Vertonghen, Spurs midfielder Lewis Holtby says he is happy he chose a move to Tottenham over Arsenal this January.
The German midfielder was linked a few times with the Gunners after facing them in the Champions League with Schalke, but chose to sign for Spurs instead.
However, quotes like this are often taken slightly out of context to stoke the fires ahead of big derby games – it is well known that Holtby was linked with several other clubs, including Liverpool and Everton.
Speaking to ESPN, he said:
“There was speculation that I would join Arsenal when we played against them in the Champions League, but I have no doubt that I made the right decision by coming to Tottenham. When the decision needed to be made and Tottenham was the club I was offered the chance to join, I couldn’t wait to get started. I had a good chat with chairman Daniel Levy and the manager Andre Villas-Boas and this was the right move for me.
“This is a massive club with massive ambitions and everything about this place is set up for success. From the manager, to the squad, to the training ground and the fans, Tottenham is set up for success.”
Either that or Arsenal weren’t that interested due to being quite well stocked up in the attacking midfield department? It is a shame though as he looks a good player, but let’s hope he’s on the losing side today.
