Arsenal to move for Lorient striker in the summer

According to the Metro, Arsenal tried to bring Lorient forward Alain Traore to the club this January and will try again to sign him when the transfer window opens in the summer.

The 25-year-old has apparently been a target for Arsene Wenger for sometime, though he is one of many, many strikers to have been linked with the club in recent months, as speculation has grown around that position since the departure of Robin van Persie. The article claims a deal was nearly struck towards the end of this transfer window, but an injury complicated procedings.

Manchester United are also linked with the Burkina Faso international, valued at roughly £5million. While this seems almost like a typical Wenger signing – a little-known African from the French league available on the cheap – there is little evidence that this story has anything more to it than the countless others that have come up recently.

Besides, with Walcott’s new deal sorted and Giroud and Podolski finding their feet nicely in English football, a striker is probably less of a priority than it seemed. What would be good would be another midfielder to play alongside Arteta due to Diaby’s constant injury problems.
