Everton have been linked with a sensational last-day swoop for long-time Arsenal target Alvaro Negredo of Sevilla.
The Toffees are hoping to lure the Spanish international striker to Goodison Park and have tabled a bid of £8.6million, according to the Mirror.
It is hard to know how strong Arsenal’s interest was, particularly in this transfer window with David Villa appearing to be the main target in the striking department, as well as perhaps Demba Ba before he joined Chelsea. Still, the Gunners have been linked with Negredo many times before and it would be something of a blow if this talented player went to a rival so cheaply, especially as Everton look like genuine contenders for a top four finish this year. It wouldn’t look too great if Negredo joined and his goals fired them to a finish above us, when many supporters could see that the team needed more of a replacement for Robin van Persie.
But Gooners are used to disappointment in the transfer window. With not long left now it looks like we will have to watch on as reports of exciting deals such as this one roll in – none of them involving us.
