Spurs to make late Diame bid

It’s the saga that just won’t die – after Arsenal target Mohamed Diame yesterday committed his future to West Ham, the Daily Mail now claims Spurs will move to sign him.

The midfielder has been the subject of much speculation this month, with a very decent £3.5million minimum release fee clause supposedly tempting Arsene Wenger into a move, though none has materialised.

Although it initially looked like Sam Allardyce was resigned to losing the player, he appears keen to commit to the Hammers. Whether Spurs will be a little more gung ho with their approach might persuade him to make the move, as Arsenal have clearly not done enough to snap him up – if anything at all.

Spurs are apparently keen on Diame due to an injury to Brazilian defensive midfielder Sandro, while a move to Arsenal made sense for similar reasons – injuries to Abou Diaby and Mikel Arteta leaving the Gunners short in midfield.

I’m very much starting to think Diame to Arsenal won’t happen. I can’t work out why, because that’s a very good price for a player of his quality in a position we need. It would be annoying if after weeks of dallying, Spurs nipped in and got him right at the end.
