Sky Sports report that Mainz striker Adam Szalai has told German television that he doesn’t think he will be going to Arsenal – or anywhere else – in this transfer window.
The Hungarian has been linked with the Gunners already this month, as the press continue to find strikers that Arsene Wenger could add to a strikeforce still missing last season’s top scorer Robin van Persie, who made a shock summer move to Manchester United.
The 25-year-old has attracted interest for his performances in the Bundesliga this season, and seems to be finally fulfilling the potential that saw Real Madrid sign him for their B team as a youngster.
However, the player himself says there has been no contact from any clubs.
“There hasn’t been any connection made with the clubs who have been reported in the press, so I don’t have to think about being an Arsenal striker. It’s improbable that I’ll go anywhere in the winter transfer window and that 15million euros will be paid for me.”
Since it’s looking increasingly likely that Wenger won’t be bringing anyone in this January, I’d be inclined to believe this story is true. We might be watching Szalai, but he’s probably one of many we’re considering for next summer.
