According to the Spanish website Sport, Barcelona striker David Villa has met with Tito Vilanova to tell him that he wants to be allowed to leave the club during this transfer window rather than be forced to stay at the club until the summer.
Villa, who has been linked with a move to Arsenal for the duration of this window, had been told that he would have to stay at Barcelona as they had no desire to sell him before the end of the season and who were also stressing that the player still had a role to play at the club.
The report claims, without source, that Villa is unhappy and met with Vilanova to express his desire to leave the club. They claim the meeting was cordial.
There were no details about whether or not Villa is expected to be granted his wish [if this is actually his wish] but it is claimed that the interest from the Premier League is pushing Villa to leave the Spanish side.
Arsene Wenger was alleged to have phoned Villa according to the British press who, again, didn’t say how they knew this had happened.
Whatever the truth, it seems that the David Villa story hasn’t quite run out of steam yet.
