Ladbrokes claim on their website that Arsenal sent scouts to Old Trafford last night for Manchester United’s game against West Ham, presumably to watch Hammers midfielder Mohamed Diame.
The former Wigan midfielder has been linked with Arsenal a few times in this transfer window, particularly due to a very reasonable-looking £3.5million minimum-release fee clause in his contract.
The Gunners are a little short in midfield following the sale of Alex Song in the summer, while Abou Diaby has been in and out of the team as ever with his repeated injury problems. Mikel Arteta now faces a spell on the sidelines as well in a further blow to Arsene Wenger, so a move for the talented Senegal international makes a lot of sense.
Of course, Arsenal scouts are probably sent to watch a lot of players at a lot of games, so there’s no reason to see this as anything out of the ordinary. And who knows who they were watching? After all, we’ve even been linked with United winger Nani in recent times.
Hopefully there is an interest in Diame, as I can hardly imagine you’ll find a player that good for so cheap anywhere at the moment.
