It wouldn’t be a transfer window if some of our old favourites didn’t make an appearance and I must be honest, I was starting to be concerned when I hadn’t seen many of them surface.
But fear not, the Daily Mirror are here to allay all our fears and tell us that Arsenal are on alert as Anderlecht’s Lucas Biglia wants to move this month.
He is this season’s Sebastien Frey.
Of course, there is absolutely no information whatsoever to back up the claims that Arsene Wenger is ‘on alert’. The player is a defensive midfielder, Arsenal are said to be looking for a defensive midfielder – bingo! You have a match. Sky Sports claimed in August that Arsene had been watching the player since 2006 and this would be slow burner, even for Wenger.
Last month the Daily Mail claimed that the player wanted to move in January and at the time his club’s general manager, Herman Van Holsbeeck said
We have not formally received an offer for Lucas but we know this his agent is making moves in the transfer market.
Biglia has two and a half years left on his contract and we would only consider letting him go if we receive an offer of €10.25m. He won’t leave in January for a penny less.
Back in May the player claimed that he had contact with Arsenal with Biglia being reported as saying
There has been contact with Real Madrid and Arsenal and we are waiting. If Real Madrid decides to make an offer, everything else would be put in the background. We’ll see what happens.
I have a contract with Anderlecht until 2015, but the club know that I intend to leave. We have negotiated my buyout clause and if a club comes to pay it, Anderlecht will let me go.
As I said at the time, players who link themselves with a club rarely end up moving to that club and I don’t see that changing now.
Still, nice that the papers are consistent with their rumours when they need to fill some space.
