Not since the Lampard nonsense has a story made me chuckle as much as this. But yesterday the Metro (re)linked Inter Milan (and West Ham) with a move for Chamakh (something that we first looked at a few days ago). There is very little information in the article that we haven’t looked at before and the story is pretty much recycled – but apparently Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni has recommended Chamakh as a target for the club in the January window. Obviously there is no source to back this information up and I would have to ask the question – have they seen him play? Compared to Inter teams of recent years – Stramaccioni’s side (whilst 2nd in the table) have been relatively short of goals. I hardly think that Chamakh is the man to reverse that situation.
In one way – it’s a real shame that his Arsenal career has gone this way. Chamakh looked like he could well have been a very shrewd piece of business when he first signed for the club. Unfortunately for him – RVP did something that he had never done before and stayed fit. And from then on Chamakh was never the same (obviously this didn’t help either).
Looking around the internet – it’s easy to list about 10 clubs that have been linked with a move for the Moroccan. So it’s hard to imagine him still being at the club in February (and I’m sure that he will want to put this chapter of his career behind him). He wouldn’t even be the first player to make the move to Inter from Arsenal. But having said that – I think he is as likely to sign for Wycombe Wanderers as he is for Inter. No part of me thinks that he has the quality for a club like Inter. I’d imagine there is a tiny possibility of a loan deal (if potential moves for Fabian Caballerro and Emile Heskey have already fallen through) – but I’m sure Wenger will want this transfer to be a one way trip with a no refund clause. Wenger will want to put the Chamakh chapter behind him.
Oh, and in case you were wondering where I do think he will end up…..I never thought I’d side with the Daily Star but unfortunately I think that their transfer guesswork on this one may well be correct.
