The Metro have linked Arsenal with River Plate midfielder Ezequiel Cirigliano, a 20-year-old Argentine who has been compared with Barcelona star Javier Mascherano.
The Gunners have been short in midfield this season with injuries to Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky, and it is thought that Cirigliano could be brought in to help fill the void left by Alex Song, who left over the summer.
The article also claims that off-form and out-of-favour full-back Andre Santos could be involved in the deal, with River one of the clubs eyeing up a move for the Brazilian.
Manchester City are also rumoured to be interested, though Arsene Wenger would surely have the edge over Roberto Mancini in terms of being able to offer the youngster regular first-team football. [Insert joke here about how he'll be off to Man City after a couple of seasons with us anyway!]
Although I hadn’t heard of Cirigliano until now, he seems to be highly thought of in Argentina, and would add extra depth to a position that needs it. I remain cautious with this story though, as there are no quotes attached to it for the moment. It could just be that the club have scouts in Argentina to watch a number of players, which would hardly be surprising. The Santos idea adds extra weight to it though, and it would of course be great if we could kill two birds with one stone there.
