Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey says he looks to Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as the perfect midfielder and someone he would like to model his game on.
The young Welshman was making great strides with the Gunners before having his leg broken in a horror challenge by Ryan Shawcross in 2010, and says he is finally starting to feel like his old self again.
Often criticised for his form since returning from injury, Ramsey admits he’s still getting used to playing regularly again, but is optimistic for the future, and would like to become a more complete player.
In an interview with Wales Online, he said:
“I’ve been pretty happy with my form. I feel much more comfortable this season and sense that my touch is coming back. I feel better on the ball and when that happens things start to click into place.
“There’s a competition there that we haven’t had in the last two or three years and that’s healthy. I want to be the complete midfielder, someone who can defend and attack.
“Steven Gerrard is someone who’s done that very well over the years and he is someone I am trying to emulate. I’ve got no problems playing in wide positions on the way to that. You can still come inside and get into areas you’re used to operating in.”
