Rumoured Arsenal target Stevan Jovetic will not be leaving Fiorentina in the January transfer window, according to the club’s sporting director Deniele Prade.
The Montenegro forward has earned some rave reviews for his performances in Serie A over the last couple of seasons, and has been linked with Premier League clubs such as ourselves and Manchester City.
However, if a move is to happen it will be next summer due to Fiorentina’s fears about finding a replacement in the middle of the season.
Quoted on Inside Futbol from an interview with Mediaset Premium, Prade said:
“He is our star player. There is no transfer, he stays until June. Then in the summer we will assess the situation. It is hard to find great players in January.”
As ever, it’s hard to know where rumours of our interest have really come from. He’s certainly rated very highly, but is currently out injured, which seems to be all too regular a theme with him. He only has 32 goals in five seasons with Fiorentina, which doesn’t strike me as overly impressive.
Then again, at 23 he has time to develop, and Wenger might feel he could still do with extra options upfront after the summer departure of Robin van Persie.
