They’re like buses, transfer rumours, and as January gets closer with every passing day, the number of keepers likely to be linked with Arsenal is only set to rise. So, not long after the British press linked Arsenal with a move for Premier League keeper, the Dutch press are today linking Arsenal with a move for Ajax shot-stopper Kenneth Vermeer.
The keeper, who made his debut for the Dutch national side last week, is currently the Ajax number one, was apparently watched by Arsenal scouts as he faced German in the goalless friendly. Sport1 claim that Arsenal will be willing to pay €6m for his services tough how they know this they do not say.
Vermeer is currently contracted to Ajax until 2015 and has made 12 appearances in the Eredivisie, conceding 12 goals and keeping three clean sheets. In the Champions League this season, he has played four times, conceding eight with no clean sheets.
At this point it is clear that Arsenal are looking to reinforce in this position and it is doubtful that this will be the last keeper linked with a move to the club. How much truth there is to any of the rumours, we are likely to never know until one of them finally puts pen to paper. Sport1 are claiming that Ajax, while happy with the keeper’s performances would be willing to let him leave at the right price, but, again, they offer no source to back up this claim.
