Arsenal legend Robert Pires has praised Lukas Podolski’s performances so far in the German’s first season with the club.
Podolski moved to the Emirates from Cologne over the summer, and has had big boots to fill following the departure of Robin van Persie, but Pires feels he has done well.
The 27-year-old won his 100th cap for Germany at Euro 2012 over the summer, and has six goals and four assists in his first sixteen games with the Gunners.
Pires, who was part of the great Invincibles side of 2004, believes Podolski can become a legend if he continues to progress as he has.
Reported on Goal.com after speaking to the German Press Agency, Pires said:
“Wenger likes him and Lukas is popular with everybody here. Sometimes it is not easy to settle down in a new team and a new country.
“I really hope that he can become a legend here like Thierry Henry or me. He is a really good man.”
Good praise indeed from a true Arsenal great. A fine compliment. Let’s hope he’s right!
