Arsenal’s Lukas Podolski has been complaining to the German paper Bild that he is not happy being played out wide on the left and wants to play in a central role. With Theo Walcott also wanting in there and Giroud already there it is clear that not everyone is going to be able to play the role they want.
Podolski said
I’d rather play centrally up front. On the left I have to do a lot of defensive work, constantly run up and down. I am not a classical winger.
It [the move to Arsenal] was a change, a different country, a new club. I found a good deal indeed. But I demand more and I want to play even better.
I find this surprising, I was under the impression that Podolski was not shy of putting in a shift and was used to playing out wide left. Also, he’s been at the club five minutes and it might be best to talk about this stuff with the manager rather than the press.
Sport Witness are also reporting that the German international refused to speak with the English press after the game against Schalke on Tuesday night.
