A report in the Mirror today has claimed that Arsenal have sold Alex Song because of his bad attitude, laziness and the fact that he always turned up to training late.
In what was quite a damming report they said that the player would drive coaches at the club to distraction with his attitude and reports which surfaced on Twitter today claimed that Song asked to be allowed to leave when Arsenal refused his request for a pay rise. Arsenal did not stand in his way despite the player having three years left on his deal and Song will complete his move to Barcelona and be unveiled by the Spanish club tomorrow [Tuesday].
When asked about the decision to sell Song Wenger said
There are different reasons, I don’t want to come out with that now, but it happened. Every case is individual and maybe one day I will explain.
We are left with that decision and now we have to face it and deal with it in the correct way.
Hopefully we can. Possibly we will bring in a player, if not we have plenty of midfielders.
We make the players here. All that have left were made here or made a name here or came here very young.
Fabregas, Clichy, Adebayor, Henry, Nasri, all of them. Song came at 17. He had a lot to do but he did it.
I believe part of our club is to influence people’s lives in a positive way. You would prefer to influence it in a positive way for yourself but it does not always happen.
The Daily Mail go on to add that ‘club sources’ stated that his level of professionalism dropped significantly over the last few months with Wenger becoming tired of the player’s attitude. They claim that Song was desperate to commit his future to Arsenal however believed that he should see his wages rise to be on par with the top earners at the club. His tardiness, lack of effort in training and failure to follow instructions from the staff lead Arsenal to believe that offering him a new deal was not a priority.
So. There you go.
